Grove Guild March 31 Event Recap: From Holy Grail to Spamalot with Sean Cox
Equipped with popcorn and plenty of curiosity, Guild members recently gathered for a lively preview event exploring the humour and history behind our upcoming Spamalot production.
We dove into the world of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, learning how the iconic 1975 film inspired the Broadway musical and continues to influence comedy today. Through clips and discussion, we explored the Pythons’ signature blend of clever wit and absurdity—from coconut “horse” sounds to the infamous killer bunny—and how these elements translate to the stage.
Sean Cox guided us through key moments from both the film and the musical, highlighting what carries over and what’s been reimagined—including the addition of music, dance, and the unforgettable Lady of the Lake.
Members also enjoyed an exciting behind-the-scenes look at The Grove’s 2026 production, featuring a dynamic cast, an all-new castle-inspired set, and more dancing than ever before—including tap! From the Trojan bunny to a host of delightfully outrageous props, the team is hard at work bringing this joyful and hilarious show to life. We can’t wait to share it with you this summer!
