Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This Broadway and West End long-running hit is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of four), an onstage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and some good old-fashioned romance!

    The Grove is marking Canada Day with three veteran standup comedians who, not coincidentally, made their start in our Nation’s Capital. (Two of them still live there, while the other is now a resident of Kawartha Lakes!). Their many (and very Canadian) credits include appearances on CBC Radio’s The Debaters, Laugh Out Loud, Definitely Not The Opera, The Halifax and Winnipeg Comedy Festivals. Headliner Rick Currie was one of the staff writers for The Rick Mercer Report. Can ya get more Canadian—and funny—than this?

    Debuting in 2018, Person of Interest has been delighting audiences across the country. Those who enjoy the wave of stand-alone storytelling like CBC’s Vinyl Café, and National Public Radio’s The Moth podcasts, will crave this yarn spinning, edgy, comic tale. Person of Interest, is an extremely topical tale, about a good, law-abiding citizen who hoped to volunteer in her community. When she applied for a police background check, she discovered she had a record, courtesy of some very bad neighbours. And now she is considered a Person of Interest.

  • Gordie Johnson of Big Sugar

    Mr. Johnson brings his massive, well known and highly influential song book to life in this one-man acoustic performance drenched in the blues and folk music that inspired his Big Sugar catalogue.     Written and Performed by Chris Gibbs, A Legal Alien includes some of Chris’ best material from 30 years in comedy, with observations, stories and even a little bit of the acrobatics left over from his years as a street performer, all woven together in a very funny show about moving from the UK to Canada.

    Chris’ silly, playful and clean approach to comedy has seen him successfully touring Canada since his first visit in 1994.

  • Marie Bottrell Sings Patsy Cline

    After winning the Canadian Country Music Association award for Female Vocalist of the Year two years in a row, Marie Bottrell went on to be inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010. Now she brings her own hits as well as country favorites and the music of Patsy Cline to The Grove Theatre.
